My father was an incredible man. He worked hard and was a great family man. Yet he had a tendency to say that if an invention hadn’t been invented already he definitely would have thought of it. “The corkscrew is a fantastic tool, if that wasn’t there already I would have created it”. Maybe he would have but he never came up with any other inventions of merit. When we quizzed him on why he hasn’t invented anything new (only things that already exist) he would say that everything has been invented now, that “there is nothing left to invent”. At times it seems like he is right, while Dragon’s Den and shows similar to it often produce strange products there is nothing simple that hasn’t been thought of. Of course, there are things like artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and more but these were a little outside the scope of my father so I will give him a break there. However, I recently came across a new invention that I am sure my dad would have loved to create – the thinnest suitcase in the world.
When you first hear about the thinnest suitcase in the world it doesn’t sound so practical but please dear readers hear me out, this is special. Consider your luggage needs at the moment. When you are traveling somewhere for a weekend stay you need a small case that can pack enough for the weekend but not be too much of a hassle to carry around. On a longer trip, you likely still want a case that can be used as carry-on baggage but it needs to fit a few more things. In both of these scenarios, you will still end up with a rather bulky case. When you get home and have to put that case somewhere it can be difficult to find a spot to get it out of your way. Right now I know that my suitcase is in the wardrobe taking up half of the space. I haven’t used it in months but I know that because I see it every day. I see it every day and I don’t use it. Something is wrong here.
Rollink has created the thinnest suitcase in the world. It is 2.3 inches wide. It has a hard shell on the bottom and top of the suitcase to ensure your items are protected from any flippant bag handlers. It has wheels and a handle for easy use and it comes in a range of lovely colors. All of that is great but the most impressive thing is that it expands. While the front and back are tough the sides are made with fabric which allows them to collapse and be stored away easily.
The fabric is water-resistant and fully lined inside to still offer some protection. I know what you are thinking right now – “ I could have thought of that” – but you didn’t. Neither did I. Neither did my dad. The best inventions (or innovations in this case) are the ones that are so simple we all think we could have thought of but we didn’t. What Rollink has created here is a solution to a problem. While many of us have large homes and don’t worry about where to put a luggage case, for those cramped into small apartments it is a huge issue trying to fit it somewhere discrete. Too large for under the bed? Too wide for the closet? Too bulky for behind the door? Now you can collapse it down and hang it in your wardrobe like a suit. This may sound like a paid advertisement for Rollink, it isn’t, I am just really impressed by the ingenuity. My dad would be too.
