Everyone has a right to be happy. You are the one who is responsible for your happiness. Sometimes we see other people happy and enjoying life and we wonder what secret do they have to be happy all the time.
However, we are different and what could be making someone else happy might not necessarily make you happy.
Below is a list of things you can do right now to make a happy life:
1. Take a depth breath
A deep breath has the potential of immediately taking you from a fight-or-flight mode to a rest-and-restore. Learn to take a depth breath whenever you are anxious or under intense pressure. This will definitely cheer your mood and make you happy.
2. Smile
A smile is a clear reflection of happiness. However, happiness also results from smiling. That’s just how the body is programmed.
For that reason, learn to smile even in difficult situations. The more you smile, the quicker your troubles will disappear. Research scientists have proved that smiling triggers a chemical reaction that leads to the release of dopamine, serotonin and endorphin hormones – all of which are responsible for happiness.
3. Exercise
Exercising has also largely been attributed to a happy life. You, however, don’t need to do a lot of it to brighten your mood. Whenever you work out, your body produces endorphins.
Endorphin hormones often create a sense of euphoria. They are also considered to be effective natural painkillers. Jogging for a few minutes a day or taking a short walk can greatly reduce anxiety, stress, and depression.
4. Make lemonade
This is a saying we often hear from friends and motivational speakers. But what has lemon got to do with your happiness?
It means turning around a negative situation into a positive one. For example, instead of viewing things as problems, see them as opportunities to learn and improve, to better yourself, to work harder and so on and so forth.
5. Count your blessings
Being grateful is one way we can enhance our happiness. Sit down and write down a list of things you appreciate in your life. The list doesn’t have to belong. You can start with just two or three. Then reflect a time when you didn’t have these things. It doesn’t matter what you are going at the moment, there’s always something to be thankful for.
6. Travel
Traveling is another great way of making you happy. Travelling opens up your mind and makes you appreciate what you have back at home.
It also refreshes your brain and exposes it to new experiences. Travelling gives you an opportunity to learn new things that are likely to bring joy and happiness to your life.
7. Self-care
You have always heard that service to others brings inward joy and happiness. That’s perfectly true and we should always do that.
However, experts also say that we shouldn’t forget about ourselves in the process of serving other people. Self-care is very important when it comes to enhancing our own happiness.
